Board agree to shut while activity low
Government has announced the Island's king scallop fishery will be closed from today (22 DEC) until the early in the new year, to 'safeguard stocks'.
The decision was made by the Department for Environment Food and Agriculture, following advice from the Island's scallop management board.
It'll reopen on the 4th of January and runs until the end of May next year.
DEFA member Tim Baker says it's a sensible decision during a quiet time of year for the fishery:-
