Fire crews called to tackle a fire in a gas main in Kirk Michael yesterday faced flames fifteen feet high.
Crews from Kirk Michael and Peel descended on Balleira Road in the village at around 3.45pm, to find a gas main ablaze on the embankment of the road.
Officers using water jets soaked surrounding grass and shrubs to prevent the blaze spreading while gas engineers cut off supply at both ends of the main.
Fire crews were on the scene for three hours dealing with the incident.
