DoI says group isn't recognised industry body
Landlords say they haven't been directly asked about moves to introduce minimum property standards and tenancy rules on the Island.
The Department of Infrastructure is seeking views on a new landlord registration bill to regulate the private rental market, which homes about 16% of the population.
At a meeting last week (22 June), the Manx Landlords Association (MLA) met to discuss the proposal, and claims it hasn't been consulted by the department.
The DoI says Infrastructure Minister Tim Baker wrote to Charles Garside of the MLA on the day of the meeting to invite the group to take part in the consultation.
It adds that the association is not a recognised industry body, so it's not a statutory consultee under government rules.
The consultation is available to complete online at gov.im and closes today (27 June).
