Consultation on Eastern Area Plan ends today
Time is running out for the public to make their views known on a government document which could shape development in the East of the Island for years to come.
A consultation which began in May on the latest draft of The Eastern Area Plan (TAPE) will close today (31 August).
A series of maps and documents have been available to view, showing how planners intend to zone land for employment, housing, industrial and other uses.
Throughout the consultation period, campaigners have come forward to object to the zoning of rural areas for housing development, such as the Save Camlork group.
The Cabinet Office says it’s striving to strike a balance between protecting the Island’s natural beauty and catering for what government sees as the economic, housing and social needs of the population.
Around half of the Island’s population live within the boundaries of the plan, which spans Douglas, Onchan, Braddan, Marown, Santon, Laxey and Lonan.
