Confirmed cases of bird flu led to implementation of protection zone
There’s a warning to kept bird owners to maintain ‘good’ biosecurity measures.
Following confirmed cases of bird flu in the West of the Island, the government’s chief vet has implemented a ‘protection’ and ‘surveillance’ zone covering the Patrick area.
The zones mean legal obligations are imposed on keepers within the 3km protection and 10km surveillance zones restricting movement and housing of poultry and other kept birds.
Chief Veterinary Officer Amy Beckett, says risk to human health is low, and well-cooked eggs and poultry are still safe to eat.
