Chief Minister says Island shouldn't lag behind mainstream thinking
The Chief Minister says it's time to start the debate on gay marriage.
Ireland recently made history by becoming the first country in the world to introduce same-sex marriage by popular vote.
Allan Bell believes the Island's reputation was seriously damaged in the years before homosexuality was decriminalised in 1992.
While respecting those with religious reservations, he says it's important the Island doesn't lag behind mainstream thinking.
Next week prominent human rights activist Peter Tatchell will speak at a public meeting organised by the Isle of Man Freethinkers' group.
