Sir John sees Army team lift Babcock Trophy
The Isle of Man’s Lieutenant Governor made his final appearance as the President of the Army Rugby Union yesterday (30 April).
Sir John Lorimer was at the Army v Navy match at Twickenham.
He held the role of president for eight years, but is handing over due to his new role on the Island on retirement from the army.
Sir John told Manx Radio that he’d enjoyed his time in the position but it was ‘time to move on’.
He added: “It’s been terrific fun. I concentrated on supporting community (grass roots) level and women’s rugby and have seen real improvements across all levels.”
The Army team beat the Royal Navy 35-27 to lift the inter-services Babcock Trophy in front of almost 59,000 spectators.
