An Island prisoner has been handed a life sentence for attacking a prison officer.
Steven Eric Galloway was sentenced today (Friday).
He was being held on remand at the prison when the offence was committed.
The prison governor Alison Gomme says the sentence reflects the gravity of the offence, described as a serious, pre-meditated and unprovoked attack involving a weapon when the officer was carrying out a routine duty.
She added, it was fortunate the officer did not sustain serious injuries.
