Boat towed to safety after rope caught in vessel propeller
A small pleasure craft had to be towed to safety after it got into difficulties in Castletown Bay on Sunday (1 December).
Port St Mary lifeboat was carrying out a man-overboard training exercise, half a mile south of Spanish Head at 11.30am, when it was told of the incident by Belfast Coastguard.
The lifeboat proceeded to the aid of the boat, which had a rope caught in its propeller.
Two crew members boarded the vessel, while one crew member went into the water to try and free the rope.
With that failing, the decision was made to tow the vessel into Castletown Harbour.
There it was handed over to the local coastguard unit.
