Accused of bringing £120,000-worth of cannabis to Island
A court’s heard a Liverpool man was arrested by police with £120,000-worth of cannabis in a hidden compartment in his van.
Thomas James Taylor, of Lilly Green in Walton, denies producing cannabis bush and possessing the drug with intent to supply.
The 46-year-old appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.
Prosecutor James Robinson told the court Mr Taylor arrived on the Island by ferry from Merseyside on 25 April.
Taylor drove to the Falcon’s Nest hotel in Port Erin, and checked into his room.
A short time later, police arrested him and discovered six kilos of cannabis in a Citroen Berlingo he said he’d borrowed from a man called Rio.
During interview he told police he was on the Island to tender for work and knew nothing of the drugs, but couldn’t give an address for the site he claimed to be tendering for.
Mrs Hughes remanded him in custody until his next appearance on 4 June.
