Weather allowing, it's one of the best nights of the years for seeing meteors or shooting stars as they are sometimes called.
The Perseids are perhaps the best known of all the meteor showers which happen throughout the year and at its best can produce almost a meteor per minute streaking across the sky.
Astronomer Howard Parkin says the official peak time is 1am Wednesday morning, though anytime around midnight should be good.
