Any unauthorised vehicles must be moved by 22 June
The site of the former bus station on Lord Street, currently being used as an unmanaged car park, is set to close to the public by the end of the week.
It means any unauthorised vehicles parked on the grounds must be removed by 6pm on Sunday (22 June).
It's as plans have been submitted for a major 14-storey development of the site including a multi-screen cinema, apartments, bus facilities, offices and commercial units.
A planning application was re-submitted last month.
'Despite significant delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, two extended planning processes, and the sudden death of a key team member, the team is hopeful that construction work will commence before the end of this year.'
A spokesperson for Lord Street Development SPV Limited says: 'Huge efforts from all involved have always been directed toward bringing this strategically located but underutilised site into active use that benefits Douglas and the wider Island.
'We are now entering the final stages of the planning process and remain optimistic that the town will soon benefit from a comprehensive regeneration scheme — including vastly improved public transport infrastructure, modern office accommodation, a cinema, and a vibrant mix of retail, food and residential spaces.'
The developer says the site will close in accordance with an agreement with the Department of Infrastructure.
Access will be restricted by locked barriers once the closure comes into force.
'The developers thank local residents, businesses and visitors for their understanding and cooperation during this transition and will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.'
