Love Tech launch 'STEM SPARK' education programme

Programme will operate for next two years in schools across Island

A local charity that encourages girls to explore opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is launching a new engagement programme ahead of International Women's Day (8 March).

Working with PwC Isle of Man, Love Tech have announced 'STEM SPARK' which will see volunteers and mentors offer to run assemblies and workshops at each of the island’s primary schools over the next two school years until early 2026.

The schools will also each receive a donation of eight books across age groups to increase school library STEM collections.

Example session topics on offer will include healthy eating, your DNA traits, observing and recording the weather, as well as talks about specific STEM careers.

Lisa Karran, from Love Tech, said: "Building on the success of our book initiative and our win at the Awards for Excellence for ‘Education and Learning Initiative of the Year’ in 2023, we’re excited to formalise our approach and develop the programme so that teachers can engage with us directly on an ongoing basis.

"We’re thrilled that PwC Isle of Man wants to continue their support as it ensures we can maintain momentum and begin introducing new activities to each local primary school.

"The STEM SPARK launch comes at a perfect time when International Women's Day is sparking conversations about gender equality worldwide, and we're proud that through the enhanced programme, we'll be able to continue the conversation all year-round by providing crucial female role models and STEM education for young people, especially girls and young women, as they begin learning more about the world and the opportunities that are available on the Isle of Man.
