Douglas man handed £800 fine
A court has heard how the sudden breakdown of a relationship pushed a man to 'bombard' his former lover with messages.
David Edward McLellan, of Woodbourne Road in Douglas, was this week handed an £800 fine for harrassing his ex-girlfriend.
The 39 year-old's advocate told Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes how the couple had enjoyed a 'deep and devoted' cohabiting relationship for three years prior to this July.
McLellan maintained he had never received an explanation for its sudden breakdown, and wanted to express how much he missed her.
But despite being warned by police not to contact her again, he continued - even creating new online profiles and changing his phone number to avoid being blocked.
Accepting his actions were a 'cry for help' spurred on by a spell of depression, Mrs Hughes imposed the fine along with a restraining order - as well the payment of £125 in costs.
