There was a happy ending for a dog which fell into the Sulby River yesterday (1st Jan)
Arthur - a young golden retriever - got into trouble whilst out with his owner for a new year's walk at the Sulby Claddagh.
Emergency services were called and specialist water rescue teams, fire crews and coastguard began a search of the river from where Arthur fell in down to Ramsey harbour.
Station Officer Roger Brown from the Community Fire Safety Department says conditions were treacherous with very fast flowing cold water.
The search was just about to be abandoned as conditions were becoming too dangerous and light levels falling, when Arthur was found.
Fire services are reminding the public never to jump into fast flowing rivers themselves to try and rescue a pet, but to call emergency services straight away.
