Manx Utilities gives update on Cringle and Clypse projects
Two significant reservoir safety projects aimed at strengthening dam resilience and protect water supplies on the Island have been completed by Manx Utilities.
In the south of the Island a new concrete spillway has been created at the Cringle Reservoir along with the replacement of an ageing raw water main.
Meanwhile, the replacement of two critical valves has been successfully completed at the Clypse Reservoir in Onchan.
The facility was emptied in order to carry out the work and the process of re-filling the dam is ongoing.
The Clypse project began earlier this year. One of the valves replaced transfers water to the adjacent Kerrowdhoo Reservoir and the other enables controlled drainage.
During the work the opportunity was taken to install a new pressure sensor, to provide real time water level data to the Manx Utilities control system. The project was completed on time and on Budget.
The work at the Cringle Reservoir mitigates the risk that the 80 year old stone masonry spillway could be undermined during heavy rainfall - a failure that could lead to dam erosion or subsidence.
