Sent to prison for nine months
A drug addict who burgled his family’s home has been sent to prison.
Twenty-two-year-old Kyle Collins, of no fixed abode, appeared for sentencing before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He’d previously pleaded guilty to burgling his parents’ home in William Proctor Court on 26 March.
The court heard he’d begged his parents to pay off a £1,000 drug debt – but was banned from the house after stealing to feed his habit.
Jason Roberts has more:
Collins went to his parents’ home and messaged a friend saying he was going to break in and take enough to pay off his debt.
But after smashing the back door with a hammer and taking £1,600-worth of goods he was arrested by police.
His advocate said a supervision order would do more good than an immediate custodial sentence – but magistrates disagreed.
They sent him to prison for nine months.
