Man jailed for luring victim to planned attack 

31-year-old receives three-year sentence

A man who lured another man to a planned attack in a lane in the Isle of Man's capital, that left him in need of stiches to his hand and ear, has been jailed for three years.

Michael Glover organised a drugs related meeting with the victim in August last year with the intention of giving him a 'few smacks' in an attack planned with another man.

Douglas Courthouse heard the other man had swung at the victim's head with an unidentified weapon, catching his left hand as he held it up in defence.

A search of Glover's mobile phone also revealed messages relating to 38 drug deals involving cannabis worth £1,000 between January to August 2023.

The court heard messages were exchanged between Glover and the other man about meeting with the victim ahead of the incident including one that said: 'Let's go and smack his head in'.

The attack happened at about 6.30pm on Cinder Path in Douglas on 19 August 2023.

The court was told while the 31-year-old had planned to give the victim a 'few smacks' he had not known that the other man would bringing a weapon.

Glover pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

In a statement, read to the court, the victim said he had sustained wounds to his right ear and left hand in the attack, had suffered issues with his mental health that had left him unable to work for almost a year, and had experienced family issues.

Jailing Glover Deemster Graeme Cook said it was a 'serious offence' that had been aggravated by being in a public area and planned.
