Twenty-four-year-old pleads guilty to February assault
Punching a healthcare worker has landed a man a three-month jail term.
Twenty-four-year-old Aaron Lee Barnett appeared before the Deputy High Bailiff, at Douglas Courthouse, through a live link from prison in Jurby.
He pleaded guilty to assaulting a man in Manannan Court, in Braddan, on 12 February as he was being discharged from the facility.
Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon told the hearing Barnett wasn’t happy about leaving and turned to the man before punching him in his head. He didn’t cause lasting injury.
Police were called and Barnett said voices in his head had told him to punch the man who he said had smiled at him.
Mr Arrowsmith said unemployed Barnett had a long criminal record which included assaulting police officers, criminal damage and various violent offences.
He jailed Barnett for 12 weeks noting that because of time he’d served on remand he would be released immediately.
