Police search revealed weapon
A man who carried a knife with a three-inch blade in public has been put on probation.
Charlton Andrew Gary Watterson, of Empire Terrace in Douglas, pleaded guilty to carrying a prohibited article when he appeared at Douglas courthouse.
Magistrates heard a member of the public called 999 to report seeing a man with a knife on Castle Mona Avenue at 11pm on 3 June.
Police officers stopped the 23-year-old and searched him because he matched a description they'd been given.
During their search, police officers found Watterson was carrying the kitchen knife, which was six inches long, in his trouser pocket.
Ian Kermode, defending, said Watterson had no explanation for having the blade which he'd picked up and pocketed at his bedsit.
He added it hadn't been used to hurt or to threaten anybody in any way, and his client had no intention of doing so when he was stopped.
Magistrates put him on probation for 12 months and he was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
