Two arrests made following reports of man being assaulted near Tesco

A man has received hospital treatment for non-life threatening injuries following an incident in Tesco car park in Ramsey earlier today, Saturday 7 February.

In a statement issued this evening, the Isle of Man Constabulary has confirmed that officers responded to reports of a male having been assaulted in the area of the store on Bowring Road.

In response, both uniformed officers and specially trained firearms officers were deployed.

The incident has since been resolved safely with police confirming that two arrests have been made.

Video footage circulating

Several videos showing part of the arrest, on a bus travelling from Ramsey to Douglas, have been circulating social media.

The Constabulary says: 'We recognise that the footage may cause concern; however, we would like to reassure the community that there is no ongoing risk, as well as take the opportunity to thank passengers for their cooperation in allowing the Officers to safely work.

Any witnesses to the incident, and any passengers who were travelling on the bus, are asked to make contact with police to help with enquiries.
Anyone with dashcam or other video footage relevant to the incident is also asked to come forward.

Meanwhile, officers are asking residents to avoid speculation while the investigation remains ongoing.

Tesco remains closed

Ramsey Tesco was closed after the incident and currently remains closed due to police activity in the car park; officers say they will provide a further update on that situation as soon as they are able.

They say there will continue to be a police presence in the Ramsey area both to support the investigation and provide reassurance.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Isle of Man Constabulary on 631212.

Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
