Vessel tugged down final straight
A Steam Packet vessel took almost eight hours to reach its destination yesterday (23 Oct) after suffering a technical fault.
The Manannan departed Douglas at 2:45pm, but an hour into her journey was struck by the failure of one of the components in the ride control system.
The ship continued her journey on reduced power, yet Liverpool port authorities advised they would not allow Manannan to approach the River Mersey channel without assistance from a tug.
The Steam Packet Vessel eventually arrived at 22:30pm after the allocated tug boat was delayed.
Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward has apologised to those affected by the technical fault and the subsequent delayed caused in waiting for tug assistance.
No sailings are scheduled for the Manannan over the next two days. Officials say the failed component will be replaced once home by shore-based engineers.
