Whitley Council workers in the Island are being thanked for agreeing to a year-long pay freeze in exchange for a guarantee of no compulsory redundancies.
Just under half of the 2,000 public sector workers employed on Whitley Council terms voted in a ballot on the deal, tabled by the employees' side.
A signed agreement will ensure manual and craft jobs in both central and local government are not lost through compulsory redundancy for a period already underway, between 1 April this year and 31 March 2014.
Although the vote in favour of the pay freeze was close, both sides on the pay negotiating body have hailed the agreement as in the interests of safeguarding jobs while employers implement budget cuts.
