£4.5 million in budget for new management structure
Plans by government to turn the Manx NHS into one of the 'best Island health services in the world' have taken a significant step forward today.
Manx Care is now in charge of running day-to-day operations, with the Department of Health and Social Care left to deal with policy and strategy.
It's hoped this 'patient-centred' approach will lead to reduced waiting times, savings and better quality care.
More than £4 million was set aside in the last budget to set up Manx Care's management structure.
The creation of the body was one of the recommendations of a report which found the previous system was financially and clinically unsustainable.
Mr Foster comes into the role with extensive experience of overseeing transformations in NHS trusts across the UK.
Manx Care will be accountable to the Department of Health and Social Care, and will have to report on its performance and financial savings targets.
