MHKs step in after access, confidentiality and abuse concerns are raised
Two Rushen MHKs say they will continue to try and help alleviate pressures facing a doctor’s surgery in the south of the Island.
Juan Watterson and Michelle Haywood have met with the Southern Group Practice to investigate issues with patient access, appointments and privacy.
In a three-hour meeting, on 24 April, concerns from both patients and staff were raised.
These included confidentiality, access to appointments, issues with abuse, racism, the aging population and employee turnover.
Southern Group Practice provides more than 40,000 appointments each year however it is currently 1.5 GPs short of its quota despite efforts to recruit.
More than 31 percent of patients are over the age of 65 with significant numbers over the age of 80.
The practice is said to experience between 80 and 90 missed appointments per month.
Mr Watterson says he’ll continue to engage with the practice to address his constituents’ concerns and will now be involving Manx Care:
