New 'arms-length' body part of DHSC restructure
A new organisation will be in charge of running the Island's health and social care services from next week.
Manx Care is set to 'go live' on 1 April as part of a fundamental restructure of the Department of Health and Social Care.
The arms' length body, led by chair Andrew Foster CBE, will become the employer of around 2,500 staff.
DHSC services will continue to run as before for patients and the public, while further changes are expected in the long-term.
These include integration of local services that are high quality, person-centred and affordable for future generations.
It leaves the department to focus on strategic policy, regulation and legislation.
Manx Care's launch has been welcomed by the health minister who says the new approach signifies a determination to ensure modern, sustainable and relevant services are provided.
However David Ashford's cautioned that 'transformation is a process, not an event', and much work remains to be done.
