Elective procedures were cancelled at Noble's Hospital owing to OPEL 4 alert
'System-wide discharge and flow improvement work' are amongst the mitigations in place as part of a dedicated operational pressure plan formulated by Manx Care ahead of TT.
That's from the health minister, who's been updating Tynwald after procedures at Noble's Hospital were suspended last week owing to the medical facility operating at OPEL 4 on the Operational Pressures Escalation Level.
Claire Christian told the court this morning that as part of the detailed plan - which is now finalised and will soon be published - 'clear and early action' can be taken before pressures are allowed to escalate during the racing period.
She confirmed no additional beds have specifically been created for TT, but the 'plan is designed to strengthen resilience, through daily oversight of the Emergency Department status, bed capacity, critical care, theatre staffing and OPEL levels':
In a supplementary question, Onchan MHK Julie Edge asked her if there's a dedicated 'Manx resident's plan' in place too, which could foresee problems like those experienced by the hospital last week, but Ms Christian said the situation on 12 May was 'exceptional':
