Shortage of medication reported in the UK
Manx Care says it’s working to combat a supply issue with antibiotics used to treat respiratory infections including Strep A and scarlet fever.
Pharmacy staff are liaising with pharmacies across the Island to determine stock levels to ensure there are enough antibiotics in all locations.
Prescribing guidelines are also being developed for use by doctors if shortages of certain drugs do emerge as a number of antibiotic types can be used to fight the Strep A infection.
Procurement specialists are continuing to locate – and where available order – as much antibiotic stock as possible from wholesalers in the United Kingdom and expedite transportation to the Island.
But Manx Care is warning that restrictions are in place to ensure there is an ‘equitable’ supply of medicines across the UK.
