Health body says reciprocal agreements may not cover all eventualities
Motorsport visitors to the Island for the TT, Southern 100 and Manx Grand Prix meetings are being urged to ensure they have adequate travel insurance in place.
The warning's come from Manx Care which says that visitors from countries outside the UK are unlikely to be covered by a reciprocal health agreement and are generally only entitled to urgent emergency services free of charge.
All other services, including admission to hospital after treatment in the emergency department, medicines and diagnostic tests must be paid for.
In the majority of cases visitors from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will be covered for most, if not all, of the costs they incur under the reciprocal healthcare agreement between the Isle of Man and the UK.
However, they are reminded that the reciprocal agreement does not cover all eventualities.
Oliver Radford, Manx Care's Executive Director of Health Services says treatment that is immediately necessary or urgent will always be provided - such as someone in a road accident who suffers a medical episode.
