20,000 headstones to be surveyed over 7 years
Every gravestone in Manx Church of England graveyards will be scanned with laser technology as part of a new project.
A team of around 40 people will survey 20,000 headstones - across England and the Isle of Man - over the next seven years.
It's hoped the resulting database - which will feature photos and information - will help people research local history and family trees.
Atlantic Geomatics is beginning the privately funded project in the next few weeks in Carlisle.
Tim Viney, from the company, told the BBC it will have several benefits:

Three-month wait for state pension forecast statements
No timeline yet for reinstatement of rehab service to north
Manx Care TT ready despite 'exceptional' pressures faced last week
Manx Telecom merger not scrutinised by Manx Government
