Developer described as 'shadowy'
Residents in a busy area of south London are voicing anger at a Manx property firm's plans to redevelop a historic building.
Yelloway, based on North Quay in Douglas, is the listed owner of Dorrell Place in Brixton - which currently houses shops and a popular bar.
Dorrell Place is locally well-known as the site where former department chain British Home Stores opened its first shopfront back in 1929.
But plans for a five-storey hotel build there haven't sat well with many - who already have fears over pollution and congestion on the busy high street.
Concerns have been compounded by the fact that the council's planning website was offline for most of the consultation period - leaving detractors unable to lodge their opposition.
Community website Brixton Blog has criticised the lack of information made public by what they describe as the 'shadowy' Manx developer, which has been incorporated since 2002.
Its authors are calling the affair 'anti-democratic and disturbing'.
