Bolton Wanderers in critical position
A Championship football club owned by a Manx-based businessman could be wound up after a petition from the UK taxman.
Bolton Wanderers, which is owned by Ballasalla-based Eddie Davies, confirmed this afternoon it’s received a winding up petition from HMRC over unpaid income tax and VAT for November.
Mr Davies, who bought the club in 2003, is in talks to sell – having ploughed around £185 million of his own fortune into the side.
A spokesman for Bolton Wanderers says the club is in a critical financial position and is trying to finalise a sale or raise funds to provide a breathing space.
