Manx Radio wildflower meadow project enters fourth year

A project to try and convert a grass bank behind Manx Radio on Douglas Head into a wildflower meadow has now entered its fourth year.

It's the combined effort of presenter Howard Caine and the Manx Wildlife Trust's Community Ranger Hannah Phillips.

Methods to help encourage the wildflowers have included leaving the meadow uncut, between May and the beginning of July, planting yellow rattle seeds and also trying to reduce the nutrient levels of the soil.

Last year the pair planted a hedge of hawthorn trees - as these were most likely to survive in such an exposed location.

They say they're starting to see the difference in biodiversity in the area:
