An assessment of New Zealand's approach to healthcare is underway this week, by a senior team from the Island's health department.
Minister Howard Quayle and his chief executive are midway through a factfinding tour, to see how the country's public health care system based on the Canterbury model, serves the population.
The model provides a much broader range of care in the community than exists at present in the Isle of Man.
It is said to benefit both patients and the taxpayer, by greatly reducing the number of people needing hospital treatment.
Before setting off, Mr Quayle said New Zealand's targeted approach could offer a way forward for the Isle of Man:
