Merger with Jersey Telecom announced last week
A former board member with Guernsey Telecoms says the Isle of Man Government should explore closer links with Jersey Telecom.
Last week it was announced Manx Telecom and JT Group had agreed to merge, subject to regulatory approval.
Anthony Webber, who was against Guernsey Telecoms' privatisation when it happened, says that news indicates how valuable it is perceived to be.
He believes the Manx Government should take note:
Manx Radio approached the Department for Enterprise for comment regarding the merger of Manx Telecom and Jersey Telecom:
'The Isle of Man Government understands that the announcement that JT Group and CVC DIF have formed a strategic partnership to acquire Manx Telecom is positioned with real potential to support sustained investment into the resilience and quality of connectivity that supports our community and economy, and is a sign of long term confidence in the digital capabilities of the Island's telecoms and data infrastructure.
'Over the coming weeks and months we will continue to work with Manx Telecom and the broader group to better understand the potential impact of any change of ownership.'
