9.6 increase announced
The chair of Marown Commissioners says a 9.6 per cent rise in rates was necessary after years of little investment in public facilities.
Alison Lynch says with the introduction of the Equality Act this month, the authority felt it was time to spend on making its public toilets user-friendly.
Other factors in the hike include inflation and the rising costs of waste disposal.
She says increases have been 'very small' in the last decade, with this year's 9.6 per cent rise leaving the parish rate at £1.64 in the pound, an increase of 14 pence.
