Teenagers get insight into creation of hybrid supercar
Students on the Isle of Man have been given an insight into the world of engineering from a supercar maker.
A team from McLaren visited the University College yesterday (5 February) to talk to teenagers about careers in the automotive industry.
The event coincided with the start of National Apprenticeship Week.
Robert Yates, Ella Podmore MBE and Beth Elliot were accompanied by a McLaren Artura – the manufacturer’s first ever series production high performance hybrid supercar.
Robert, a body engineering project manager, is originally from the Isle of Man.
He said: “I’m delighted to be coming back to the Island with some members of the team from McLaren.
“I’m extremely passionate about promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects and highlighting the exciting careers that can come from these subjects.”

Ella Podmore is a senior materials engineer for McLaren Automotive – she was awarded an MBE for her contribution to engineering, innovation and diversity.
