Public event in Douglas to explore influence, accountability and standards of Island’s media
A public discussion focusing on the role of modern media in Manx society and politics is set to take place this evening. (20 April)
The Positive Action Group is behind the event, which will bring together representatives from across the Island’s media for a panel debate.
Titled "The role of the modern media in Manx society and politics", the discussion will explore how journalism 'shapes political views and public opinion', while also examining its strengths and areas for improvement.
Organisers say the session will “hold up a mirror” to the Island’s media, with panellists expected to reflect on its achievements, challenges and opportunities.
The debate will also consider how media organisations can be held accountable within a democratic society, as well as the overall quality of journalism on the Isle of Man.
The event takes place at the Manx Legion on Market Hill in Douglas at 7pm.
Admission is free.
