MGP rider dies following incident at Ballagarey

33-year-old Colchester rider made his debut in 2015

The organisers of the Manx Grand Prix have confirmed a rider died during the first qualifying session at this year's event yesterday (20 August).

Gary Vines, who was 33, succumbed to his injuries following an accident at Ballagarey on his first lap of the session.

The Colchester man had been a regular at the event since making his debut at the event in 2015, where he won the Newcomers B race.

He also competed at the 2022 and 2023 TT Races, posting his fastest ever lap around the Mountain Course of 118.488mph earlier this year.

The Manx Grand Prix says everyone involved in the organisation of the event expresses their deepest sympathies to Gary's family, his partner, loved ones and friends.
