Economic Development Minister John Shimmin says he asked Castletown’s MHK to give up his departmental role in retail because of perceived possible conflicts of interest over Callow’s Yard.
Earlier this week, Richard Ronan MHK said he’d oppose plans to replace commercial units with flats at the site after a unanimous vote from commissioners and 170 people at a public meeting.
Mr Shimmin says he’ll now take responsibility for retail, leaving Mr Ronan free to campaign in his constituency.
He says he asked Mr Ronan, who’ll stay on at the department, to step down after a meeting yesterday:
