Contracts 'required' for public services
The government may be hiring more staff on zero-hours contracts, but it couldn’t provide public services without them.
So says Policy and Reform Minister John Shimmin, who faced questions from Onchan MHK Peter Karran in the House of Keys today (10 May).
Mr Shimmin said 108 contracts were issued last year, up from 88 the year before.
But he defended the contracts – which have been widely criticised for lacking staff protections:
