Minister gives full backing to new hygiene ratings scheme for eateries

DEFA adopts methodology applied in England and Wales

The introduction of a new hygiene ratings scheme for local eateries and takeaways will make it easier for people from on and off Island to decide where they want to eat.

That's the view of Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Clare Barber, whose department has adopted the methodology applied in England and Wales.

Applying to restaurants, takeaways and pubs a score of zero to 5 will be awarded - 5 representing the highest standards of hygiene and food management.

The inspection reports will be available online and through official stickers at the premises, though these will not be obligatory - a move defended by the Minister:
