Student hopes to be first Manx woman there

A local student wants to become the first Manx woman to reach the South Pole.

Sarah Mercer, currently studying at the University of Durham, came across the opportunity to join an exhibition by chance, after attending a talk.

However, she needs sponsorship to reach her goal of taking part in the trip next December (2018)

She says the expedition will also be hoping to complete the journey of one of Captain Scott's helpers
