Exhibition to take over the Cabinet of Curiosity
A collection of recently digitised prints and posters are to go on display at the Manx Museum.
Taking over the Cabinet of Curiosity, the exhibit focuses on the techniques and technologies that have shaped the art of printing, using traditional methods like letterpress and lithography.
Highlights include sketches and stencils by Hugo Dachinger who was interned on the Isle of Man in 1940, posters promoting the Isle of Man Steam Railway and the Fun Boat from the Isle of Man to Fleetwood, advertisements for Sulby Glen Corn Flour and Sulby Glen Rice Starch, and early 19th Century printing plates for card money.
Christina Gleave, Lead Graphic Designer for Manx National Heritage said: "Prints and posters have been a vital means of communication, and a familiar feature of our public spaces since the 19th century.
"Whether promoting the Island as a tourist destination, products and services, exhibitions and performances, political causes or protests, they are compelling visual evidence of the Isle of Man’s social and cultural history.”

‘By Design’ will remain on display in the Cabinet of Curiosity at the Manx Museum until March 2024. Admission is free, with donations welcome.
