Manx National Heritage has submitted a planning application to replace eight first-floor windows at 1 Market Square in Castletown.

The registered building, within the Castletown Conservation Area, is located next to Castle Rushen.

MNH recently opened the former Barclays Bank building as a welcome hub, with the ground floor now offering visitor information, admission tickets and a shop.

According to a design statement the windows were previously approved for repair but were later found to be too dilapidated for economic repair.

It says MNH plans to ‘reproduce the historic design exactly in pattern, proportion and sightline’.

Five windows will open, while three will be fixed lights. The windows will be made from accoya timber with vacuum glazing.

The statement adds that the works can be carried out ‘without detriment to the character of the registered building, the Castletown Conservation Area or the setting of Castle Rushen’.
