Celtic Ogham alphabet is oldest written record in Manx history
Manx National Heritage will join forces with academics from Ireland and Scotland in a bid to understand the ancient Celtic Ogham writing system.
It was invented more than fifteen hundred years ago and is an alphabet that appears on monumental inscriptions - a number of which can be found on the Island.
They're the oldest written records in the language ancestral to Modern Irish, Scots Gaelic and Manx.
The three year project will look at Ogham from the fourth century to the present day.
