Plans to go out to public consultation later this year
More low speed areas are to be introduced in town centres and residential areas on the Isle of Man next year.
The Department of Infrastructure has announced plans to bring in 20mph zones as a safety measure for pedestrians and cyclists.
It's hoped the new speed restrictions will change drivers' behaviour in residential and community spaces, as well as providing increased safety for other road users such as walkers and cyclists.
In a post on social media, the DoI says the changes correspond with objectives in the Programme for Government to create infrastructure which promoted social and economic wellbeing.
Not all areas in towns will be designated 20mph zones, with road design taken into account along with the possible introduction of traffic-calming measures.
The low-speed areas will be implemented from 2020, with design work and a public consultation to take place this year.
