MHK says equality should cover even the most marginal sections of society
People who feel no sexual attraction to others will be afforded greater legal rights in the Island, if a new Bill comes into force.
The landmark Equality Bill - which outlaws discrimination on the grounds of race, religion, gender and sexuality - was subjected to several amendments in the House of Keys this week.
Among them was a new clause extending the rights to those who identify as asexual - and therefore have negligible sexual interest in partners of any gender.
It's estimated around 1% of people in the United Kingdom define themselves as asexual.
East Douglas MHK Clare Bettison, who tabled the amendment, says equality should 'cover everyone' - even if it is a marginal section of society:
