Temporary traffic lights will be in place while work is carried out
More than 20 trees will be felled around Tromode Bridge in a bid to reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
The Department of Infrastructure says the 22 mostly sycamore and ash trees are problematic due to their location, while some are diseased.
It's hoped removing them will reduce the risk of falling trees blocking the river or causing damage to downstream river structures.
As a result, temporary three-way traffic lights will be in place at the junction of Ballafletcher Road, Johnny Watterson's Lane and Tromode Road between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Wednesday (9 November).
