Onchan man changes plea
A court’s heard how a motorcyclist from Onchan overtook a car on the TT course, squeezing between an oncoming vehicle.
Fifty-four-year-old Mervyn Donnell, of Seaview Road, appeared before magistrates charged with driving without due care and attention.
He'd previously denied the offence, but changed his plea to guilty.
Barry Swain, prosecuting, said a motorist driving from Kirk Michael to Ballaugh reported the incident, which took place at around 7.30pm on 26 July last year.
Donnell overtook the driver near Alpine Corner, going onto the wrong side of the road as a car approached.
The hearing was told he managed to fit between them without crashing and was recorded on the car driver’s dashcam.
Donnell later told police he couldn't remember the incident, and said the biker in the video footage didn't look like him.
He was fined £600 and ordered to pay £800 in prosecution costs – magistrates also imposed eight penalty points.
